Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida

Bowl games have been around for more than 100 years and are some of the most exciting and well-attended sporting events. On January 1, Tampa will play host to the Outback Bowl at Raymond James Stadium. Each year the Bowl invites the third pick from the Big Ten and the SEC teams. The Outback Bowl has extended its contract to hold the bowl in Tampa through the 2013 season. |

The Outback Bowl was held in Tampa Stadium (later Houlihan Stadium) from 1986 to 1998, and then moved to the newly constructed Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in 1999. This state-of-the-art facility features a $3 million pirate ship, escalators to wide concourses on each level, theater-style seats with cup holders, two large video scoreboards, and a maximum seating capacity of 65,857, making it one of the most unique stadiums in the NFL. On December 31st, Ybor City in Tampa will host the annual Outback Bowl Parade. In 2009 some 20,000 Iowa and South Carolina fans attended this event, enjoying the city’s architectural beauty, rich cultural history and international cuisine.
